Contact our director Sam King at (816) 392-0719 or [email protected]. With Midnight Blue Orchestra at your event, no one goes away saying they did not hear something they liked. And that makes for a successful, memorable event.

Who is Midnight Blue Orchestra?

MBO is a ten piece band utilizing original arrangements to present the repertoire, polish, and powerful beat of the 1930s, 40s and 50s big bands. This approach to performing, as opposed to merely having the musicians improvise with no written music, produces a full, unified big-band sound which is classy, elegant, and exciting.

Utilizing such instrumentation as trumpet, trombone, alto sax, tenor sax, clarinet, keyboard, guitar, bass, and drums, along with the exceptionally high quality of our players, ensures that MBO is extremely tight and professional sounding. Disciplined, technically superior musicians and well-crafted arrangements are indispensable ingredients which enable our ensemble to produce a convincing “big band” sound.

Midnight Blue Orchestra plays standards which come under the generic heading of “Ballroom Dance Music”, such as foxtrot, waltz, polka, cha-cha, rumba, samba, mambo, tango, beguine, bossa nova, merengue, etc. MBO plays virtually any “standard”, i.e., well-known pop songs and show tunes from the first half of the 20th century, often referred to as “The Great American Songbook” — think of Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald and occasionally opens the unforgetable musical pages of the 1960s.

A substantial part of our repertoire is well-suited for background dinner music, for which we play a combination of slow, low-energy songs, and ballads. After dinner, when all the guests are ready to dance, the band kicks up the tempo and energy level and brings the party to life!

MBO is high-energy without being unpleasantly loud. We employ our sound system only to balance the natural instrumental blend, not to deafen the audience. Our listeners tell us we play at a "comfortable" level, allowing table conversation to balance out an evening of enjoyable music listening.

Imagine how wonderful your event could be with a beautiful, authentic Big Band! When it comes to entertainment, the CD spinning of a DJ or a looping song list on an iPod just won't do. An essential ingredient of outstanding events will be missing -- the shear energy and dynamic value of live music. No Big Band delivers this any better than Midnight Blue Orchestra who would be thrilled to provide big band music everyone loves for the event you or your organization is planning! We provide music for formal dinners, dances, fundraisers, weddings, anniversaries, commemorative events, and even in community concert settings. We perform a minimum of 2 hours up to 5 hour shows knowing your audience or invitees will have a great time! We also have access to a portable dance floor and a catering crew if you have a need for a full service venue.
